WASHINGTON — Nearly six weeks into what is now the longest government shutdown in history, a deal is moving forward that could break the congressional deadlock.

It is getting a mixed reception in the House, which is expected to take up the measure some time this week.

Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Bowling Green, is praising the eight members of the Senate Democratic Caucus who broke with their party and voted Sunday to advance a short-term funding measure that would end the shutdown.

“This is a long overdue win in support of our military families, air traffic controllers, federal employees and those relying on benefits like SNAP,” he wrote in a post on social media. “This should have never happened!”

The agreement would fund the government through the end of January at mostly current level
