The Diocese of Pittsburgh announced a change in its North Side schools, with a new Catholic academy in Brighton Heights set to open next year to replace its existing program.

In September 2026, Saint Cyril of Alexandria Academy will open on the campus of Christ Our Savior Parish, taking the place of North Side Assumption Catholic Academy, according to a press release from the diocese.

The newly established K-8 school will be operated by the Miraculous Medal Academies Foundation, which also oversees South Hills Academy.

North Side Catholic, which has about 145 students, is managed by the Extra Mile Foundation, which will continue operating the school until the end of the school year in June 2026.
