LONG BEACH, Nassau County (WABC) -- A dog in Long Beach is being credited with saving a family from their burning home on Sunday.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning, as several people were sleeping.

The family's goldendoodle, named Chase, spotted the danger and woke up his family.

They were able to escape without injuries.

Salvatore Brecciano wasn't home at the time, but his 28-year-old son was upstairs and had to escape through the window on the roof.

Chase, the mini-goldendoodle, is only two years old and weighs 12 pounds.

"The residents were woken by the dog barking, and then looked out and saw the fire," Long Beach FD Assistant Fire Chief Rick DiGiacomo said.
