A chain bagel shop near the University of Denver has closed but will be replaced by a different chain bagel shop.
Einstein Bros. Bagels is poised to open at 2000 S. University Blvd., according to permitting documents submitted to Denver. It replaces Bruegger’s Bagels, which shuttered in recent weeks.
The two companies, both of which are based in Denver and owned by German conglomerate JAB Holding Co., did not respond to requests for comment.
Both companies sell bagels around the country. Einstein has 52 locations in Colorado, according to the company website, while the closure leaves Bruegger’s without a store in the state.
The store on University was owned by a franchisee, Shawn Carter. Last November, he sued the company over its efforts to close the store.
