U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman , a Democrat who made history a decade ago as the first Black woman from New Jersey to ascend to Congress, announced Monday she won’t seek another term next year and will instead retire after a 30-year political career.
A groundbreaking fixture in Garden State politics and a revered progressive lawmaker, the 80-year-old Watson Coleman has represented Central Jersey’s 12th District in the U.S. House since 2015.
