VIRDEN – RCMP have charged a 65-year-old man following an investigation into a sexual assault that occurred more than 40 years ago.

Police say they received a report in May about an incident that took place in 1984 involving a teenage girl under the age of 16 and a 24-year-old man.

After a lengthy investigation, officers arrested Vincent Tacan on November 5 and charged him with one count of sexual assault.

Mounties say the name of the victim and the exact location of the incident are not being released to protect her identity.

Virden RCMP continue to investigate.
