WEST FARGO — After 35 years and six state championships, West Fargo’s Jay Gibson is hanging up his head coaching hat.

Gibson confirmed to The Forum on Monday that he'll be stepping down from his position leading the West Fargo High School football team.

"I've been thinking about that. There's really never a good time, so why not now?" Gibson said. "I've had my shot, I've had my fun and I've been a coach for such a long time that there's probably been six or seven (school) principals the same time there's been one football coach."

Gibson's 3-1/2 decade run guiding the Packers included six state titles, 12 Eastern Dakota Conference titles, 29 playoff appearances and an overall record of 217-140 for a .608 winning percentage.
