The Bremer County Board of Supervisors approved three change orders to the courthouse project, netting a savings of $6,532 from contingency funds. The supervisors rejected a fourth change order for $354—essentially $354 in savings—by asking the project manager to pay the contractor to fix an apparent defect in workmanship under warranty.
Change orders approved were:
• Returning an allowance unused by the earthwork subcontractor, saving $14,182. Not installing a type of heavy-duty stakes—termed bollards—that were originally planned to go around the generator, saving $2,250. These items totaled $16,432 given back by Baker Enterprises in Waverly, half the total change orders.
• Electrical equipment that was not used led to about $2,820 being given back by Paulson Electric in Waterloo.
