BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The U.S. Marine Corps celebrated 250 years of service Sunday with ceremonies across Louisiana recognizing the military branch’s history of sacrifice and dedication.
Gov. Jeff Landry joined the celebration, emphasizing the Marines’ role in protecting American freedoms.
“Freedom is not free, and it must be fought for and it must be preserved, and one of the ways we do that is through the United States Marine Corps, so thank you so very much,” Landry said.
Louisiana’s oldest and youngest Marines shared the first slices of a birthday cake, continuing an age-old tradition and symbolizing the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.
