The long-running Cornwall Girls Hockey Association Fall Faceoff tournament continues to highlight local sports and the community.
The recreational tourney drew 61 teams, including more than 20 local entries, to its 41st edition. That’s a slight uptick from the 58 in 2024 .
“The amount of people it brings in is huge,” said tournament spokesperson Mike Turcotte. “We managed to get a lot more hotel rooms (for visiting teams).”
Turcotte explained the Dev Hotel and Conference Centre was able to open up for more bookings. Turcotte said the thousands of visitors helps to offset what has been a noticeable drop in sales revenue as the local economy grapples with U.S. tariffs.
“With teams coming in from everywhere into the city, it’s more important than it has ever been,” he said.
