COLUMBUS, Ohio — Emotions ran high Monday during the first day of testimony in the murder trial of Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb, who is charged in the August 2023 shooting death of Ta’Kiya Young.

Young’s family grew visibly upset as prosecutors played body-worn camera footage of the shooting. Several family members cried and left the courtroom during the video presentation.

The video, shown as Blendon Township Lt. Josh Retherford testified, depicted two officers — including Grubb — approaching Young’s vehicle after a Kroger employee accused her of stealing.

Some jurors appeared emotional, wiping away tears as the footage showed Young receiving medical attention after being shot.

Defense attorney Mark Collins objected after the courtroom disruption.
