Nick Kurtz of the Northern California Athletics has been named the American League Rookie of the Year, claiming all 30 first place votes. His teammate, Jacob Wilson, finished second in the voting, with 23 second place votes, four third place votes, a fourth place vote and a fifth place vote. Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox finished third.
And of particular interest for Texas Rangers fans, pitcher Jack Leiter finished seventh in the balloting. He received a third place vote (from David Singh of Sportsnet), a fourth place vote (from Levi Weaver), and a fifth place vote (from Jeff Wilson).
