Alfred Hitchcock chuckled with delight at the recording session for the 1955 movie “The Trouble with Harry.” Bernard Herrmann, the composer, had deftly translated the darkly comic tone of the story into music. The newly published book by historian Steven C. Smith “Hitchcock and Herrmann: The Friendship and Film Scores that Changed Cinema,” explores their remarkable collaboration and the iconic films it produced.
Smith is a four-time Emmy-nominated documentary producer and award-winning author. He’s produced over 200 documentaries about film and music including collaborations with Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Stephen Sondheim, John Williams, Julie Andrews and Sidney Poitier.
