WEXFORD COUNTY — Students in Northern Michigan were left disappointed on Monday after waking up the school, despite the snow the state saw.
The process behind a school making the decision requires a lot of communication.
Jessica Harrand, the Buckley Community Schools Superintendent, told 9&10 News that they will communicate with the Gaylord Weather Service for weather updates, conduct road checks, communicate with other superintendents, and speak with the road commission.
When schools do decide to close, it is a decision Harrand takes very seriously.
Harrand said that for some students, the school is a warm place where they receive a meal for the day. They also employees that need to work to get paid.
