Purdue basketball slipped from its perch atop the AP Poll, falling to No. 2 in Monday's rankings while Houston under coach Kelvin Sampson ascended to No. 1.
The Boilermakers still received the most No. 1 votes with 36, while Houston got 18, Connecticut got three, Duke received two and Michigan, led by Indiana alumnus Dusty May, garnered one.
The Journal Gazette's Dylan Sinn is a voter in the poll.
The Boilermakers played their first two games of the season without All-American forward Trey Kaufman-Renn and while they beat Evansville and Oakland by an average of 20.5 points, they did not rebound or defend as well as coach Matt Painter would have liked.
