KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - 1,078 families have food on the table tonight after the Central Texas Food Bank brought a food distribution to the Killeen Mall amid the support needed for communities during the government shutdown.
The food distribution started at 4:30 but the line started to form as early as 1:30 pm and began to circle the exterior of the mall.
“It has been a consistent theme for the last few weeks as the shut down has gone on, we’re seeing more and more people attending these distributions and getting there sooner to line up,” says Beth Corbett who is the Vice President of Government Affairs and Advocacy for the food bank.
Bell County is one of 21 counties served by CTFB. “This is actually the county that has the highest rate of food insecurity,” Corbett explains.
