WASHINGTON — The Senate officially passed a funding bill Monday night after a decisive final vote, moving one step closer to ending the prolonged government shutdown. The spending package will still need approval from the House and President Trump's signature before the government can reopen.
The final Senate vote, 60-40, broke a grueling stalemate that lasted more than six weeks.
During the final votes, the Senate blocked a Democratic effort to extend expiring health care subsidies for one year.
Ahead of the final vote on Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson urged lawmakers to return to Washington "right now." The House has been on an unprecedented recess since mid-September, so lawmakers are scattered across the U.S., and many may face travel delays due to FAA-mandated flight cuts
