Shepherd Mix Puppy Set on Fire in Los Angeles Inspires Outrage and Hope

A young Shepherd mix named Luke is clinging to life after suffering unimaginable abuse at a homeless encampment in South Los Angeles. His rescuers say that while his story is horrifying, it reflects a growing crisis for animals living in and around encampments throughout the city.

Witnesses told rescuers that several people at the encampment deliberately set Luke on fire. In a desperate attempt to survive, the terrified dog ran for help, crying out in pain as flames engulfed his body. Rescuers from Starts With One Today Animal Rescue found him collapsed nearby and rushed him to emergency care. The medical team later confirmed that Luke had sustained third and fourth-degree burns covering most of his body.
