BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — November 11 is a very meaningful day for veterans across the United States. Equally as meaningful — and a particularly notable milestone for some vets — is November 10, the Marine Corps 250th birthday.

Early Monday afternoon, folks gathered at the capital building to recognize the 250 years of bravery, commitment, and honor that make up the United States Marine Corps. Veterans, family members, and even former president Teddy Roosevelt made an appearance.

One of the classic traditions for the Marine Corps birthday, is the cutting of the birthday cake with an officer's sword. Then, the cake is shared with the oldest and youngest marine, as a symbol of the continuing service that spans generations.
