The flight crews of two aircrafts that nearly collided with construction workers at Melbourne Airport were not aware the runway was temporarily nearly 16000 metres shorter than usual, a report has concluded.

In September 2023, two large airliners, one from Malaysia Airlines and one from Bamboo Airways, were involved in near misses at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport just 11 days apart.

They almost collided with construction workers and their equipment, who were working on runway 34, which was shortened by 1568 metres as a result.

Part of the runway was closed due to resurfacing works.
