SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – As part of Veterans Day, the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will host a special ceremony to honor six World War II veterans who paid the ultimate price while serving their country.
One of those was Private Marvin Gunderson of Parker.
KELOLAND News spoke with a couple of his family members who say they are both grateful and honored the state is recognizing his service and sacrifice to our country.
Private Marvin Gunderson served in the Army and was killed in action on April 3rd, 1945 in Okinawa, Japan.
"Grandpa and grandma didn't really talk very much about uncle Marvin, but we always knew about him," Gunderson said.
