ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Rock Island city leaders continue to debate about regulations over homeless shelters and food pantries.
At the end of October , city leaders passed an ordinance that changes how homeless shelters and non-profits in the city operate. But now, city leaders are having discussions to amend some of that language.
Under the recently adopted rules, it requires shelters to get a $500 yearly license, and stay 1,000 feet away from schools, daycares, and parks. It also gives the city manager the authority to approve, fine or revoke licenses.
Mayor Ashley Harris tried to veto the changes, but the vote fell short.
Monday evening, city council began discussions on changing some of the language in the recently passed ordinance.
