KILLEEN, Texas — At Shoemaker High School in Killeen, football isn’t just about the game — it’s about family, discipline, and the values that come from serving something bigger than yourself. For one father-and-son duo, those lessons come straight from the heart of military life.

Le’Andro Ruiz, a center on the Shoemaker High offensive line, plays the game with heart and grit. For him, football is all about teamwork and physical challenge. But the discipline that drives him? That comes from his dad.

"He keeps me pushing a lot," said Ruiz. "He shows hard work and discipline and stuff, so he brings that on to me and I just show it off."
