At a time where the tug-of-war with academies has never been more intense, Detroit Country Day’s most recent state title is a reminder of the value of school pride.

In soccer, they call it “playing for the badge.”

“I like that, playing for the badge,” Country Day’s senior Dream Team midfielder Tino Haratsaris said shortly after the 4-1 title victory over South Haven . “I mean, MLS is fantastic, those players are. Unreal tiki-taka, just quick (play and movement). But like I said, playing for a (school), it’s like a family. You love these guys, you see them every day, and winning a state championship for your school, it just means the most.”

Yellowjackets head coach Steve Bossert talked about the commitment from his players after lifting the trophy.
