PHOENIX (AZFamily) — After more than two years apart, a Valley soldier has finally been reunited with her dog.

Army Sgt. Joanabel Montes’ pup was kept safe while she served the country as part of the Arizona Humane Society’s “Project Home Away ." It matches service members with a foster family to care for their pets while they’re deployed.

Montes left her husky, Sabo, in July 2023. After more than two years, they’re finally reunited!

Sgt. Montes said her family couldn’t care for Sabo, so she reached out to the Humane Society for help.

Over the course of two years, Sabo was in three different foster homes.

“He was treated like family everywhere he went. He’s having a blast,” Sgt. Montes said.
