The Blade’s recent editorial, “Voting indifference,” Thursday, offers a disappointingly narrow view of what voter turnout means and who deserves credit for the results. Yes, turnout was low, but that doesn’t mean Toledoans don’t care. It means people are juggling a lot. When families are working long hours, caring for kids, and trying to put food on the table, it’s easy for voting to feel like one more task in a week that’s already too full. That’s not apathy. That’s reality.

What the editorial also misses is that every candidate who won election did the work. Across the board, our Democratic candidates and their campaigns were out talking to voters since June. That’s five months of knocking on doors, calling neighbors, putting up signs, and hosting events.
