Several popular trails for hikers and bikers in Delaware will be closed for about a week to allow for the annual shotgun hunting season.

According to DNREC's website, the November 14-22 hunting season is held to help attempt to "manage the size and quality of Delaware's deer population."

Hunting in Delaware State Parks is not permitted on Sundays, allowing other recreational users to use the parks safely.

DNREC reported that 18,823 deer were harvested during the 2024-2025 season, including the shotgun periods, along with the more-expansive archery seasons.

That was a record harvest, and a 29% increase over the 14,451 found in 2023-2024.
