In a ruling issued just before midnight on Monday, a 3rd District Court judge rejected a congressional map drawn by the Utah state Legislature and instead said the state should use a map drawn by plaintiffs.
Utah lawmakers previously said they plan to appeal the case that forced them to redraw Utah’s congressional boundaries to the Utah Supreme Court, and potentially all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
What is the new map?
Judge Dianna Gibson issued a decision ordering that “Map 1 be implemented for use in Utah’s congressional elections.”
The map Gibson chose was put forward by the plaintiffs in the case, including the League of Women Voters Utah and Mormon Women for Ethical Government.
