Sydney Sweeney’s latest film, Christy, a biopic of boxing champion Christy Martin, has had a disappointing box office debut, earning just $1.3 million across North America in its opening weekend.
The film, directed by David Michôd, released on November 7 and was screened on 2,184 theatres across North America. Despite the wide release, it earned an average of $600 per theatre over three days, placing it among the worst wide-release openings in Hollywood history.
Box Office Mojo ranks Christy in the bottom 10 all-time wide-release openings (excluding re-releases), with only a few pandemic-era films performing similarly poorly. The lowest-ever wide-release debut was The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure in 2012, which earned $444K.
