The Town of Victoria Park has revealed nearly 50 trees were removed without authorisation during redevelopment works to a park and adjacent hospitality precinct, and says it is investigating what went wrong.
Victoria Park Mayor Karen Vernon told Mark Gibson on ABC Radio Perth the discovery was "deeply disappointing and very embarrassing for us".
"We pride ourselves on our environmental stewardship, particularly around trees, so to have so many trees removed in a project where they weren't earmarked for removal is something that we're very concerned about," she said.
