COLUMBUS, Ohio — St. Ignatius’ boys soccer team came up just short in the Division I state championship match, falling to Dublin Jerome, 3-2, on penalties Monday night at Historic Crew Stadium.
It was St. Ignatius’ first title-game loss since 2019.
St. Ignatius and Dublin Jerome entered extra time tied 2-2. Neither side could find the back of the net, sending the match to a tense penalty shootout.
Senior Tyler Yohman gave the Wildcats a 3-1 advantage in the shootout, slotting his shot low to the left corner and wrong-footing the Celtics’ goalkeeper.
The Celtics rallied behind their keeper, who made three straight saves. Then Sean Dempsey buried his shot in the top-right corner for the win as the seventh shooter.
