The Prevent counter-terror scheme is “not fit for purpose,” a damning three-year review has found.

The Independent Commission on UK Counter-Terrorism Law, Policy and Practice found the Government programme needed a “radical overhaul”, having turned away 90 per cent of people referred since 2015 because they had no obvious ideology.

It comes after an inquiry into the Southport attack found major failings in the handling of Axel Rudakubana , who killed three children and attempted to murder 10 other people at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29 last year.
