GALVESTON

The annual Lone Star Rally, known for drawing hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists and visitors to Galveston Island each November, filled streets, bars and beaches through the weekend.

And while the heavy crowds brought an increase in traffic crashes, officials said most were relatively minor. Some calls were for little more than riders losing balance and dropping their motorcycles.

Despite the largely manageable conditions, public safety agencies stayed busy across the region. Galveston police logged 58 arrests between Friday and Sunday, including 20 for driving while intoxicated, 17 drug-related offenses and four public-intoxication cases, according to police booking records.
