Devastated friends of the victim of an "unprovoked" city centre stabbing have voiced their anguish following her tragic death.

Katie Fox's mates described the 34 year old as "a beautiful soul" after the knife attack, which occurred on Smallbrook Queensway in Birmingham city centre at approximately 9pm on Friday. Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared before magistrates yesterday, charged with her murder.

Katie's friends and neighbours in the Northfield district of the city yesterday shared their devastation. One said: "They've lived there for 20-odd years, Katie was a teenager when they arrived.
