Clear Creek Disposal will be replacing Ketchum residential trash cans with wildlife-resistant cans from now through early December in an effort to reduce bear conflicts within city limits.
In August, the Ketchum City Council unanimously voted to replace the cans with new, wildlife-resistant models. The decision will raise Ketchum residents' disposal fees by an additional $3.21 per month on top of a one-time $12 delivery fee, regardless of can size.
This increase is in addition to the scheduled Clear Creek Disposal rate increase of 2.2% that went into effect Oct. 1.
Including all rate increases, Ketchum residents will go from paying $30.95 per month for a standard 95-gallon trash can to $34.91 per month—a $3.96 total increase.
The city planned to swap the cans on the following schedule:
