Each week, the Post-Gazette will recap the most interesting Steelers player grades released by Pro Football Focus, the scouting website that evaluates players’ performance on every play of every game. For context, players are graded on a 0-100 scale.

Jonnu Smith (42.0 vs. Chargers, 50.9 overall grade) – We’re not going to say he stinks, because a year ago in Miami, he caught 88 passes and eight touchdowns. Clearly, they knew how to use him. It’s in no way clear that the Steelers do.

Now past the halfway point in the season, he’s on pace to barely clear 50 catches and 300 yards. This from a guy who signed a substantial extension upon being traded to Pittsburgh in the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade and who was discussed as a possible quasi second receiver in this offense.
