Virginia will issue 65% of the typical monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to more than 850,000 residents this week following federal direction, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced.

The federal Food and Nutrition Service directed all states to initiate a partial distribution of SNAP benefits in line with guidance from the Trump administration. Based on this guidance, benefits are expected to be processed no later than Thursday, Nov. 13.

Virginia launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program last week to provide early support to residents during the federal government shutdown. Under the combined effort, SNAP households will receive 25% of benefits through VENA and 65% through the federal program this month.
