BEALETON, Va. — Six puppies were found in a shoebox in Bealeton on Saturday near a railroad. Now authorities and animal welfare officials are working to learn who abandoned the dogs.

According to Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, they were in a yellow-taped shoebox and were found on the walking path near the railroad tracks in Bealeton. They were taken into medical foster care with Fauquier SPCA for care.

Animal Control officers are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office at 540-347-3300. Investigators have not provided information about a possible reward offer. The Fauquier SPCA has not yet said whether the puppies will be put up for adoption. Additional details have not yet been made public.
