NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - Ahead of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Marine Corps. veterans were honored on Monday in Normal on the corps’ 250th birthday.
At Heartland Community College, people came together to celebrate and hear a brief history of the Marines and other war and military-related stories.
Decorated Army and Vietnam War veteran Maj. General John Borling spoke to veterans, community members, and currently enlisted men and women about his experiences during his service, and the importance of Veterans Day. He also served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters Allied Forces North Europe in Stavanger, Norway, and was stationed at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters in Belgium, where he worked directly under the Supreme Allied Commander and Chief of Staff.
