Don’t start checking the mailbox just yet.

A top Trump administration official appeared to throw cold water on President Donald Trump’s plan to send a $2,000 “tariff dividend” check to every American, the New York Post reported.

During an interview on Sunday with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “I haven’t spoken to the president about this yet, but…the $2,000 dividend could come in lots of forms, in lots of ways.”

Bessent said that the money could even make its way into the pockets of Americans through tax cuts contained in Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”

Bessent said, “It could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president’s agenda.”
