Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has published an original, Remembrance Day-themed poem in book form to raise money for a charity that provides free memorial services for people who have served.

Dilkens wrote in 2020 to read at a Remembrance Day event that year.

“I had remarks, and they were, you know, the fairly … typical remarks that people deliver at a podium event like this,” he said.

“It was about eight in the morning. I got up, and I was eating breakfast, and I said, ‘I just can't … read that speech today. I just want to do something different.’ And I sat and wrote this at my kitchen table in about two hours.”

Dilkens had not been a regular writer of poetry prior to that, though he’d written a few poems to help manage the stress of the pandemic.
