The cancellations come as the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a reduction in flights due to staffing and safety concerns during the historically long government shutdown. The reduction began Nov. 7 .
The number of overall delays and cancellations has been declining since Sunday's spike, but weekends typically have more air travel traffic.
