A man and two women were shot inside a Bronzeville Jewel Osco Tuesday morning, sending customers running for cover inside a freezer and at least one other person tumbling down stairs.

The attack began about 11 a.m. at the grocery, 443 E. 34th St., when two people entered the store and took merchandise that was on display, according to police.

When the alleged robbers tried to leave the store, a 46-year-old man intervened, causing one of the attackers to shoot in his direction, hitting the man and two additional victims nearby, police said.

Two were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, including the 46-year-old, who suffered gunshot wounds to the body and was in serious condition.
