HAMPTON, Va. — A Hampton mother is taking the city’s school division to court this week after court documents show officials refused to release video footage showing her child being left on a school bus for several hours.
Attorney Tim Anderson represents Lamisha Richards, who says her nonverbal child was left alone on a Hampton City Schools bus. Anderson argues the video of the incident is a public record under the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and should be released, at least in part, to the parent.
“The bus aide and the bus driver are supposed to inspect the bus after every pickup and drop-off,” Anderson said. “They didn’t do that.”
