LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Elizabethtown residents honored those who served with a Veteran’s Day event at the American Legion Hardin Post 113.

Veterans day is held on November 11th each year, commemorating the Armistice of World War I, between the Allies and Germany on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.

The commemoration of the date began in 1938.

Now it honors veterans past and present.

The ceremony in Elizabethtown began with a motorcade that ended at the Post.

Afterwards, the Posting of the Colors took place to commemorate the armistice. There were also speakers and music.

WAVE News spoke with Steve Sheets a Vietnam Veteran and Chaplain for American Legion Hardin Post 113.

He said coming home from Vietnam was tough for him and his military brothers.
