A 19-year-old man veered left of center and hit and killed another driver, who was working for Uber at the time of the wreck, according to the Gastonia Police Department.
The wreck occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Gaston Day School Road in Gastonia, Gastonia Police spokesman Bill McGinty said.
The teen was driving a black Cadillac south on Gaston Day School Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car, veered left of center, and struck another vehicle head-on, McGinty said. The driver of the Cadillac was not identified.
The other driver, 53-year-old Janice Lopez of York County, South Carolina, was killed. Lopez was driving for Uber, and a woman that was riding with her was critically injured, McGinty said. The passenger's name was not released.
