YOUNGSTOWN - Summit Academy Youngstown Dean of Students and Navy Veteran Michael Prendergast got a special surprise this Veterans Day.

More than 150 students, teachers and administrators at Summit Academy Youngstown surprised Prendergast with a special Veterans Day salute. The group greeted Prendergast in the hallway waving flags and cheering.

Prendergast served as a Mineman Senior Chief E8 for the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy in 2022 after 20 years of service and eight deployments.

"This meant the world to me. I love all of these kids. The staff is like my family. The culture here is amazing. This was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me," Prendergast said in a press release.
