East Lansing — Nothing was easy about Michigan State’s decision to bench starting quarterback Aidan Chiles at Minnesota.
The junior from California had taken a big leap to follow Jonathan Smith and his staff from Oregon State to Michigan State, more than 2,000 miles across the country. He’d hung tough when losses piled up and fans soured on poor performances. But through eight games, the Spartans had lost their way. Needing a spark, Michigan State turned to a position battle and Alessio Milivojevic won the job.
