(KRON) -- The Palo Alto Police Department is investigating a string of burglaries that occurred Monday night. In two of the incidents, residents were home when the burglaries occurred. In the third, the resident returned home to find several items stolen.

Palo Alto PD got a call about the first incident at around 9:26 p.m. reporting a burglary at a residence on the 3900 block of Nelson Drive. The resident, a woman in her 30s, told police she heard a gate open and saw two people with masks enter her side yard with flashlights.

The masked individuals smashed a rear glass door to the main residence.

When officers arrived, they say two subjects entering a dark colored vehicle. Officers attempted a vehicle stop but the subjects took off at a high rate of speed. Police said it is unknown at t
