WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — As temperatures drop across the Triad, a Winston-Salem church is helping homeless veterans find warmth, stability and community through its Homes 4 Our Heroes program.

Whole Man Ministries launched the initiative to provide permanent housing for veterans experiencing homelessness. The program includes five duplexes totaling 10 units. The homes are wheelchair accessible and energy efficient.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 30,000 veterans have experienced homelessness in recent years. Whole Man Ministries leaders say its work aims to help bring that number down, one home at a time.
